the bounty of our farmshare

Photobucket

Dan and I bought a share in a local farm this summer and have been both thrilled and overwhelmed with our weekly pickups. The produce is amazing - I've never been so in love with lettuce. The mesclun we get is especially delicious. I also like that we're supporting a local, organic farm and lessening our carbon footprint. And (!) it's surprisingly affordable - it comes out to about $20 a week for everything in the picture above, and our farm tells us that these are paltry boxes compared to what we'll get in late summer and early fall.

It's SO much food, though. Our lives revolve around vegetables. We've been eating salad religiously with every meal, bringing salads to all potlucks, and even pawning
veggies off on friends. But still in addition to everything from this week shown above, we ALSO have in our refrigerator from previous weeks:

- A head of redleaf lettuce

- A bag of spinach

- A half-bag of mesclun

- Scallions
- Two bunches of bok choy
- Two heads of broccoli
- A bunch of beets (plus greens)
- A bunch of turnips (plus greens)

Two people can only eat so many vegetables! This is all coming with us to the Vineyard for 4th of July - hopefully between the dozen of us, we can make some progress!
