2. Six new books on the sidebar! Hooray for reading! Most of them I found at the thrift store on Martha's Vineyard and brought home in hardback for less than a dollar each, so many are old reads. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed John Irving, though, and Son of the Circus is such an unbelievably imaginative story, it boggles the mind. That man's imagination wanders to strange but incredibly entertaining (even for nearly 600 pages!) places. I've now started to plow through Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth, so I don't expect any new book postings any time soon. I'm hoping this 1000-pager will last me the rest of the summer...
3. Ever since we moved to Albany, I've had the itch to garden, even though I never have before. We have a shady backyard--and one that is definitely not prepped for a vegetable garden--so I've finally decided to try to grow some veggies in pots on our front porch, the sunniest spot we've got. After chatting with the people at the garden store, I've planted three fledging zucchini plants. I have low expectations, and I know I'm starting late in the season, so we'll just see what happens!

I can't wait to see what happens with your potted zucchini plants. We have a cherry tomato on our deck and have plans to create a vegetable garden in our yard this fall to then be planted next spring/summer.
Me too! So far they seem to be surviving the transplant, and it actually looks like maybe they've grown since yesterday... but that could just be wishful thinking!!
