fall fun in the leaves
We are not lacking for leaves at the new house, and are very thankful for our back acre, where we can haul and dump the leaves. No more leaf bags for us!!

halloween!
Our first Halloween in Newfields, and we've learned a few things - (1) our town trick-or-treats on the 30th, and has for 60 or more years; and (2) We are on the main route, so next year we need much more candy - the 200 pieces we started with were gone by 5:30 and Dan had to make an emergency trip out. Halloween in our little town was great - we were invited to kick off trick-or-treating by going to a neighbors' house at the other end of the village for an adult beverage to-go, and then by the time we made it to the country store, the owner pulled us aside and handed us cups of spiked hot apple cider. So kids and parents alike were happy!
I had every intention this year of making the kids Pingu and Pinga costumes (big brother and little sister penguins), but I just didn't get it together, so Bennett picked a zebra costume for himself and an owl for Lucy.

We also did the Newfields Boo Parade today. We met up with all the other kids at our public library down the street, and trick-or-treated at our country store, the town hall, and the art studio that makes up the entirety of commerce in our little village. It was pretty adorable!

I also tried to do a little fall craft with the kids - we went on a little nature walk to get things to glue to our fall wreaths, but Lucy didn't get it at all and just wanted to paint the paper under the wreath, and Bennett only wanted to put on stickers. Oh well.

farm day
While Dan had his first weekend of call, the kids and I went up north a bit to see Carter, Emily, and Alice, and spend a morning at the NH farm museum. It was a completely charming and rural-tastic place, where the kids could grind corn to feed the chickens, eat popcorn the staff was popping over an open fire, follow a trail of pumpkins to a candy prize, visit a giant pig and turkeys and cows, and listen to a fabulous Halloween storyhour.

hi charlie!
We are all so excited to welcome our little nephew and cousin Charlie to the world!! I am the luckiest auntie - he's only been on the outside for about nine days now, and I've already seen him three times, including one really lovely day spent with Sarah and Charlie. On Saturday, we brought the kids down so they could meet their cousin for the first time. Cuteness ensued!!
