another random thought about cake

I was looking at the picture of Bennett enjoying his cake, and it reminded me... Our neighbor brought over some cupcakes a couple of weeks ago, and I thought Bennett and I could share one. So I cut it in half horizontally, thinking that since Bennett's never had a cupcake except on his first birthday, I could eat the top half (the best, frosting part), and he could eat the bottom half - how would he know the difference? BUT HE KNEW. And when I handed him the bottom half, his bottom lip started to quiver and his feelings were so hurt, that I would keep the best half for myself. So I gave him the frosting half, my maternal sacrifice.

I think Bennett is also trying to learn how to manipulate me. When he asks for something to which he knows the answer is probably "no," his voice goes up a couple of octaves and gets very, very quiet and sweet. "Mommy? Cookie?" It's so freaking adorable you ALMOST want to give in.
