the weaning process
Bennett has been slowly weaning over the past couple of weeks. I've been letting him take the lead, and it's interesting to watch how it's evolved. He's never been much of a comfort nurser, or a lingering nurser, so I have a feeling this might be an easier process for us than it is for some other kids.
It started with slowing down on the day-nursing; he didn't show much interest, and it was a wrestling match to get him to stay still on my lap long enough to nurse! But he was still waking up every night at 4 or 5 AM for his quick little nighttime nurse.
A little over a week ago, he just stopped waking up to nurse at night - completely on his own. He simply slept through, and has kept sleeping through. So unless we have a regression, we seem to be done with night-nursing. And yet, now, for the first time ever, he seems to be really asking to nurse during the day - pulling at my shirt and whining "mum" - at least once every day. It seems to be much more about the closeness and comfort than the milk, and I'm happy to oblige. So for now, I'm sticking with "don't offer, don't refuse," and we'll see how it goes!
