Last week I had a second sonogram as part of routine screening, and everything about my pregnancy changed in a wonderful way. LJ started out the ultrasound in a crazy position, on his head in some sort of fetal shoulder stand (which is fitting since I’ve been doing a lot of prenatal yoga!). Then he wiggled himself into a comfy resting position, nestled in the bottom of my belly like he was napping in a hammock. The ultrasound technician took three pictures that I just love.
In the first, LJ is in his hammock position, but while hanging out there, he developed the hiccups! Every couple of seconds, his whole body would bounce up starting with his chest – just amazing to watch.

In the second, we think LJ is sucking his thumb! (His fist is what looks like bubbles right next to his mouth.) I have decided that this means that I am growing a chill, self-soothing babe.

And in the third, we like to think he’s celebrating his first Halloween, pretending to be a lion and roaring at us. (This picture also confirms that LJ has two arms, contrary to our previous ultrasound - hooray!)

Watching LJ hiccup in my belly just changed everything. All of sudden, this little person feels real, like our child. And it suddenly seems like such an incredible, powerful gift to be able to nurture and carry LJ with me everywhere for the next 6 months. My heart just feels so full. I think I am becoming a mom…

Ok Jess that one choked me up too! It really is a miracle.
Awesome! Paul had the hiccups in one of our unltrasounds, and I totally forgot about it until now. It was definitely a highlight of the early part of Jenn's pregnancy....just wait until you feel the first kick, though!
Best wishes,
Jim
