random things about me
This meme "25 random things about me" has been making the rounds on Facebook, and I finally did mine. It was actually kind of fun, so I thought I'd put it up here too. Mine is more like 25 random memories/confessions than really "things about me" but oh well!!
1. The tooth fairy gave me a half-dollar for every tooth I lost. I still have all of those half-dollars. Apparently I am a saver…
2. I have been in romantic relationships basically non-stop since I was 13 or 14 years old. And I married my high school sweetheart.
3. I’m about to finish a master’s in ecological economics, and I’m not sure I’ve really learned that much. But some of my professors have been true mentors for me, and I feel like it has changed the way I think about and see the world, and for that it was completely worth it.
4. I love our life in Albany. I think a lot of our friends are eager to go, but I will really miss living here.
5. I broke my wrist snowboarding when I was a senior in college. I then hiked down the mountain and drove myself 45 minutes to the hospital. I don’t know what I was thinking…
6. I have a temper.
7. I was a total band geek in high school and I played the TROMBONE (gah!). But I absolutely loved it and I was pretty good at it too. I auditioned for and held first chair in the top student orchestra in the state, and even auditioned for and made it into a national summer program that took only 6 people across the country.
8. When I was a freshman in college, I had my wisdom teeth removed and the doctor cut a nerve, leaving me with a permanently numb bottom lip. I’ve basically never played the trombone since. I really, really, really miss playing in orchestras.
9. I think I might be happiest in my kitchen.
10. Apparently I was a total brat as a little kid. Or so I’ve been told.
11. I’ve traveled to Belgium, France, Canada, the Czech Republic, and Kenya for my job.
12. As a kid, I used to dress my little sister up in ridiculous outfits and make her parade up and down the street like a lost child. See #10.
13. My childhood bedroom has now been converted into my mother’s yoga room-slash-weaving studio. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t do yoga or weave in there.
14. I vomited in my hand in the hallway of the Hilton Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. But I didn’t get malaria!
15. On Christmas morning, my dad makes us line up at the top of the stairs, youngest to oldest, and march downstairs singing “we wish you a merry Christmas” while he videotapes it. WE STILL DO THIS.
16. I am so proud of how Dan has done in medical school – I think he will be an incredible doctor.
17. I have had a total of two pedicures in my life. One for my wedding, and one for Laura’s.
18. I spent two days completely solo in Paris in April 2007. Traveling alone was amazingly liberating.
19. In the past few years, I feel like my brother and sister and I have all started to get to know each other as adults, and have grown close. This makes me incredibly happy.
20. I think I may be incapable of sitting normally in a chair. My legs are almost always crossed Indian-style or curled up under me.
21. When I was a kid, my dad worked a lot and often didn’t get home until I was already in bed. I kept a notebook on my bedside table and at night before I went to sleep I’d write him a letter. When I woke up in the morning, he’d have written back. I also remember waking up and finding a long letter on my bed about the virtue of charitable giving, urging us to donate parts of our allowance to those less fortunate. I’m inspired by what a great father he is.
22. I have a very distinct memory of, as a child, hearing my mother say “shit” after she bumped her head on a shelf. That was a bad word. Ha!
23. I wore a cast for the first few months of my life.
24. I’ve never dyed my hair, and I doubt I ever will, but I do miss being more blonde.
25. Dan and I own two cars, affectionately called Denty (the dented one) and the Go-Cart (the tinier one, if that’s possible).

Jesi ~ these are wonderful! What a wonderful thing you and your dad had going with the notebook on your bedside table. I'll need to share that one with Mike. I've been tagged too many times on facebook to do this and still haven't done so. You've inspired me to do so...soon... ;)
